Juan M. Diehl Moreno is the head of the FinTech Department and partner in the firm’s Banking & Corporate Finance Department since 2006. He has extensive experience in fintech, foreign investments, banking and foreign exchange law, and capital markets.

He has been involved for over ten years in providing strategic advice to fintech innovators and financial institutions that need to develop and adopt products and services across all verticals, such as electronic payment platforms and applications, digital wallets, digital lending and factoring, blockchain and crypto assets, tokenization, web3, and digital banking businesses.

His professional practice also focuses on local and international commercial and financial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, bilateral and syndicated loans, corporate debt restructuring processes, trust structuring, real estate and construction transactions, foreign exchange control advice, IPOs, public and private debt issuances, and a wide variety of business contracts. He has advised corporations, banks, and multilateral credit organizations in more than 100 transactions.

Between 2002 and 2006, he assisted the Telecom Argentina group (comprising four companies in two countries) in restructuring its financial debt of over USD 4 billion, the largest private restructuring in Argentina’s history. In recent years, he has also worked on several M&A transactions, including the sale of Isolux Corsán’s renewable energy projects in Argentina, Cargill’s meat and flour divisions, the sale of Páginas Amarillas, and the acquisition of Cubecorp. During 2015 and 2016, he advised Telecom Italia on the sale of the Telecom Argentina Group to the FinTech Group for USD 960 million.

Diehl Moreno has been ranked every year in Band 1 since the creation of the Chambers FinTech Guide in 2020. In recent years, the prestigious Legal 500 has also recognized him as a leading fintech lawyer. In the banking field, he has been recognized as a leading lawyer by Chambers, IFLR1000, Leaders League, Who’s Who Legal (Lexology), PLC, ILO, and Revista Apertura.

Clients describe him as “an exceptional lawyer who not only handles banking and Fintech legal matters but also has a deep understanding of their business context” and as “knowledgeable and proactive, providing valuable insights and effective solutions to our regulatory needs.” They also highlight his political and practical sense in transactions, “which makes it easy for a multinational company to work with him.”

Before joining Marval, from 1989 to 1997, he was part of the law firm Carregal & Funes de Rioja. During 2000 and 2001, he worked as a foreign associate at Sidley Austin in New York, USA.

He graduated as a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in 1993, earned a Master’s in Business Law from Universidad Austral in 1996—his thesis was rated magna cum laude—and, in 2001, he obtained an LLM degree from Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, USA, from which he graduated with honors.

He has participated as a speaker and moderator in various conferences in Argentina and abroad. He has also published several articles and papers related to his areas of expertise in well-known legal, finance, and fintech journals.
