Customs Checks on Footwear And Apparel Labeling Standards Eliminated
Inspections of labeling standards will now only be carried out once the goods are available to the public.
The Secretariat of Industry and Commerce published Resolutions 156/2024 and 159/2024 in the Official Gazette on July 16, 2024, seeking to simplify checks on labeling standards for imported footwear and apparel.
Formerly, Customs carried out these checks on labeling standards (e.g. importer identification, composition, washing instructions, etc.) before clearing the imported footwear and apparel.
Now, the inspections will only be carried out once the goods are already available to the public and will only be carried out by the Undersecretariat of Consumer Defense, without any involvement from Customs.
This new measure came into force on July 17, 2024.
