New Argentine Geographical Indication for Wines in Jujuy

On August 1, 2025, the National Viticulture Institute published Resolution 28/2025 in the Official Gazette, adding another Geographical Indication (GI) to the list of recognized GIs in Argentina.

On this occasion, the Secretariat of Productive Development requested that “Valles Templados”—a region in the Province of Jujuy—be recognized, protected, and registered as a GI of Argentina. The application did not receive opposition from third parties and all legal requirements for its recognition were met.

The new GI is made up of terroirs with distinctive qualities to produce quality wines, in accordance with Law 25163, whose regulatory framework regulates the designation and presentation of wines and spirits of wine origin in Argentina.

This development highlights Argentina’s ongoing strategy to protect and promote the authenticity and value of its wine industry through GIs. Moreover, the recent recognition of Scotch Whisky as Argentina’s first foreign GI, and the UK official recognition of five traditional Argentine wine terms, all serve to enhance Argentina's reputation as a custodian of quality in the alcoholic beverage space.
