Sijan Joins Argentina’s Wine Map

On July 11, 2025, the Province of Catamarca passed Law 5904, officially establishing the Sijan Wine Route in the Municipality of Saujil, within the Department of Poman. The law seeks to promote local winemaking, encourage wine tourism, and strengthen the cultural identity of the region.

Accordingly, the Wine Route will include local wineries and vineyards, restaurants, tourist accommodations, museums, and interpretation centers related to viticulture.

At the provincial level, the law mandates active promotion and visibility through media and social networks. At the federal level, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sports of Catamarca will lead outreach efforts to highlight the region’s appeal.

The initiative also includes wine tastings and promotional activities in key locations, along with training programs for those involved in the Wine Route to ensure best practices and deliver high-quality visitor experiences.

The enforcement authority, which the provincial government will appoint in coordination with local authorities, will be responsible for managing and implementing the Wine Route.

Finally, under Resolution 32/2002, issued by the National Viticulture Institute, and within the framework of Law 25163, Catamarca was recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI) and Indication of Source for regional and quality wines. Additionally, Poman holds its own GI status, further underscoring the wine potential of this area.
