Composition of Cybersecurity Committee Modified
On July 11, 2019, the Argentine Executive issued Decree No. 480/2019, modifying the composition of the Cybersecurity Committee.
Through Decree No. 577/17, the Cybersecurity Committee (the “Committee”) was established within the orbit of the Ministry of Modernization, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Security, with the aim of developing a National Cybersecurity Strategy (the “Strategy”).
However, as a result of Decree No. 801/18, several Ministries were merged in order to centralize the powers in a smaller number of jurisdictions, with the possibility that Ministries could propose the creation of, among others, Government Secretariats. In this regard, Decree No. 802/18 created the Secretariat of Government for Modernization, which was assigned powers of the then Ministry of Modernization, making it necessary to modify the composition of the Committee.
Consequently, and taking into account the global challenges posed by cybersecurity, the mainstreaming of the different areas of government involved in the implementation of the Strategy, the need for a constant update of the applicable regulatory framework and the adherence of Argentina to the Cybercrime Agreement of the Council of Europe, the inclusion in the Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship, of the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers and of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights was approved.
Likewise, Decree No. 480/2019 also entrusted the Secretariat of Government of Modernization with the direction of the Committee and the promotion of administrative acts and actions necessary for the implementation of the Strategy.
