New Coverage Limits for Car Liability Insurance
The coverage limits for motor vehicle liability insurance policies bought as of January 1, 2026 have been increased.
The Argentine Superintendence of Insurance (SSN) has increased the coverage limits for motor vehicle liability insurance policies taken out as of January 1, 2026. According to SSN Resolution 589/2025, the amendments will apply to all policies and renewals issued on or after January 1, 2026.
The new limits are:
- Mandatory Motor Liability Insurance in case of death or total and permanent disability per person: ARS 20,800,000.
- Voluntary Civil Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicles and/or Trailers
- Private vehicles, motorcycles, motorhomes: ARS 208,000,000.
- Taxis, minicabs, trucks/trailers, emergency services vehicles, passenger transport vehicles with fewer than eight seats (up to 3,500 kg): ARS 455,000,000.
- Passenger transport vehicles with more than 8 seats (over 3,500 kg): ARS 676,000,000.
- Civil Liability Insurance for Vehicles Operating Through Technological Platforms (e.g., ride-hailing): ARS 455,000,000.
- Independent Legal Obligation Coverage
- Medical expenses: ARS 910,000.
- Funeral expenses (per person): ARS 533,000.
- Death or total and permanent disability (per person): ARS 20,800,000.
- Mandatory Deductible for Taxis and/or Minicabs: ARS 494,000.
The Resolution also establishes that insurance companies seeking to increase the new limits for voluntary civil liability insurance must request the SSN’s prior authorization and submit the following documentation:
- A letter signed by the president of the entity requesting the extension of the coverage limits.
- The company’s Underwriting and Risk Retention Policy, in accordance with article 24.1 of the General Regulations on Insurance Activity (as consolidated by SSN Resolution 38708 of November 6, 2014).
