Expression “NARANJO” Now Complementary Traditional Mention for Wines
The National Viticulture Institute added the expression to identify products with distinctive organoleptic characteristics.
The National Viticulture Institute issued Resolution 32/2024, published in the Official Gazette on August 29, 2024, to incorporate the expression “NARANJO” to the Complementary Traditional Mentions established in Resolution 26/2021 of the National Viticulture Institute, which approves the labeling conditions for wine industry products.
Identifying products with the expression “NARANJO” indicates that they are made by macerating the orange peels with the must during fermentation, which gives the products distinctive organoleptic characteristics.
This winemaking technique—which gives the wine a distinctive color tone ranging from golden yellow to amber or orange—has its roots in historical traditions and has undergone significant development in modern production.
