The City of Buenos Aires Attorney General’s Office Will Register Digital Signature Requests and Issue Digital Certificates
Since March, the Office of the Attorney General of the City of Buenos Aires is authorized to act as Registration Authority for the Certification of the Remote Digital Signature Platform
On March 4, 2022, the Undersecretariat for Administrative Innovation, under the Office of the President’s Chief of Staff, issued Provision No. 9/2022 authorizing the Attorney General’s Office of the City of Buenos Aires to act as Registration Authority for the Certification Authority in charge of the Remote Digital Signature Platform.
Registration Authorities are public or private entities authorized by a Certification Authority to carry out the registration process of digital signature applicants and to issue the corresponding digital certificates. Acting in accordance with the faculties received from a Certification Authority, Registration Authorities are responsible for validating the identity (and other data) of digital certificate applicants, approving or rejecting applications and revoking digital certificates pursuant to applicable regulations.
The Office of the Attorney General of the City of Buenos Aires shall serve as Registration Authority for the Undersecretariat of Innovation which, by application of Administrative Decision No. 1865/2020, administers the Remote Digital Signature Platform through the National Directorate of Digital Signature and Technological Infrastructure. This platform allows its users, only individuals, to generate digital signatures without the need of having a token (hardware).
The expansion of the network of Registration Authorities contributes to broaden and facilitate access to digital signatures, that enjoy the presumptions of authorship and integrity conferred by Law No. 25,506 on Digital Signatures.
