Argentine PTO: Statistics for 2013
The aggregate number (totals for patent, trademark, trademark oppositions and design patent filings) show a decrease of 5.1%, from 106,400 filings in 2012 to 100,977 in 2013.

This is confirmed by a closer analysis of the various items: a slight decline of trademark and patent applications (-1.9% and -0.7%, respectively), a noticeable decrease of design patent applications (-4.1%), and a sharp reduction of trademark oppositions (-21.3%).  This reduction of trademark opposition comes on top of that in 2012 (-23.0%), which makes for an overall reduction of -39.4% for 2013 over 2011.

Not included in the appended table are online trademark applications, both new and renewals, which were allowed as of August 2013.  Online trademark applications numbered 3,757 for these five months, of which 3,392 were new applications and 365 were renewals.  The use of this system from September through December 2013 appears to have stabilized in approximately 17% for new applications and 5% for renewals.  Naturally it is too early to assess how the system is working, and it is expected that the Argentine PTO will make improvements it to make it more practical and useful for large volume filers.
