The Ministry of Security Approved Three Resolutions on Cybersecurity
Government and financial sectors amongst the most affected by cybersecurity attacks.
On February 10, the Ministry of Security issued Resolution No. 75/2022 by which it approved the update of the "Federal Plan for Technological Crimes and Cybercrimes (2021-2024)". The update of the Plan aims to guarantee the safe use of cyberspace, protecting the rights and guarantees of citizens. Some of the proposed lines of action are:
- Coordinate and strengthen federal actions against cybercrime
- Improve specific training actions
- Regulatory framework update
- Forensic capabilities increase
- International cooperation
- Child protection
- Cybercrime prevention actions
- Multisectoral Cooperation
Also, on February 11, Resolution No. 86/2022 was approved, which created the "Program for Strengthening Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Investigation (ForCIC)". within the scope of the Ministry of Security. The purpose of this program is to coordinate, assist and provide advice on digital infrastructure security techniques and investigation techniques in cybercrime and crimes involving technology and/or the use of technology.
To achieve these objectives, ForCIC will carry out the following actions:
- Create the High Technology Cybercrime Investigation Center (CICAT).
- Reorganize and adapt the functioning of the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
- Create the Cyber Incident Response Prioritization Committee (CoPRIC).
- Set up the Advisory Commission on Combating Cybercrime.
- Strengthen the capabilities of the training areas in cybersecurity and cybercrime investigations of the Ministry of Security and the Police Forces.
- Promote collaboration and cooperation agreements with the public and/or private, national, and international sectors.
Lastly, on March 15, the Ministry of Security issued Resolution No. 139/2022 by which the CICAT was created within the framework of ForCIC. The purpose of this center will be to train, prevent, analyze, and investigate cybercrime, covering specific areas of approach such as: digital forensics and federal regional units, among others.
