“The Court orders compliance with the judgment that ordered the sanitation of the Matanza - Riachuelo Basin”, published by the Argentine System of Legal Information (SAIJ after its Spanish acronym) on 12/27/2016 |
In the “Mendoza” case, on July 8, 2008 the Matanza – Riachuelo Basin Authority, the National State, the Province of Buenos Aires and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires were ordered to comply with a sanitation program of the water basin, the Supreme Court required Acumar to establish a system of indicators that would allow, within a period of three months, to measure the level of compliance with the objectives set by the judgment in question. In addition, the Authority will have to submit a report detailing a timeline with the short, medium and long term objectives for each one of the basin sanitation plan’s goals. |

“Works at Santa Cruz’ dams have been suspended by the Court”, published by La Nacion on 12/22/2016 |
The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation suspended works at the Kirchner and Cepemic hydroelectric dams, over the Santa Cruz rivers, which have been stopped for a year. The judges recommended compliance with the environmental impact procedure provided for in the Hydraulic Works Act No. 23,879. |

“Pulp mills: after a discussion, Argentina and Uruguay agreed more controls”, published by La Nación on 12/14/2016 |
After a discussion between the Uruguayan and Argentine Environment Ministers on the contamination of the Uruguay River and the impact of the UPM pulp mill (ex Botnia), the Administrative Commission for the Uruguay River (CARU after its Spanish acronym) decided to move forward with a list of greater environmental controls on the coasts of both countries. |

“La Corte ordena que se cumpla la sentencia que dispuso el saneamiento de la Cuenca Matanza – Riachuelo”, publicado por el Sistema Argentino de Información Jurídica (SAIJ) el 27/12/2016 |
En la causa “Mendoza”, en la que el día 8 de julio de 2008 se condenó a la Autoridad de Cuenca Matanza - Riachuelo, al Estado Nacional, a la Provincia de Buenos Aires y a la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires a cumplir con un programa de saneamiento de la cuenca hídrica, la Corte Suprema requirió a la Acumar que establezca un sistema de indicadores que permita, en un plazo de tres meses, medir el nivel de cumplimiento de los objetivos fijados por la sentencia en cuestión. Además, la Autoridad deberá elevar un informe en el cual se detalle un calendario con los objetivos de corto, medio y largo alcance para cada uno de los objetivos del plan de saneamiento de la cuenca. |

“Suspendió la Corte las obras de las represas en Santa Cruz”, publicado por La Nación el 22/12/2016 |
La Corte Suprema de Justicia de la Nación suspendió las obras de las represas hidroeléctricas Kirchner y Cepernic, sobre el río Santa Cruz, que ya se encontraban paralizadas desde hacía un año. Los jueces recomendaron que se cumpla con el procedimiento de impacto ambiental previsto en la Ley de Obras Hidráulicas Nº 23.879. |

Luego de un debate entre los ministros de Medio Ambiente de Uruguay y de la Argentina sobre la contaminación del río Uruguay y el impacto de la pastera UPM (ex Botnia), la Comisión Administradora del Río Uruguay (CARU) resolvió avanzar de inmediato con una lista de mayores controles ambientales en las costas de ambos países. |
