24/7 Unit of Cybercrimes and Digital Evidence

Resolution No.1291/2019 created Unit 24/7 of Cybercrimes and Digital Evidence, with the aim of serving as a main contact point regarding the Cybercrime Convention adopted in Budapest.

24/7 Unit of Cybercrimes and Digital Evidence

The Resolution, which complies with the provisions of the Budapest Cybercrime Convention (“Convention”) (for more information here), creates Unit 24/7 that will assume the functions as a contact point of the 24/7 Network, with the objective of ensuring immediate assistance in the investigation of criminal offenses carried out through computer systems and in the collection of electronic evidence of a criminal offense.

The 24/7 Network aims to facilitate the direct application of the following measures: a) the provision of technical advice; b) data retention in accordance with articles 29 and 30 of the Convention; and c) collection of evidence, provision of legal information and localization of suspects.

Unit 24/7 will operate within the National Directorate of International Affairs under the General Coordination Unit of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, and will act in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship as a central international cooperation body in criminal matters and in the requests for mutual assistance.

The Resolution provides that Unit 24/7 will be integrated by officials and staff of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.

Finally, it invites the Ministry of National Security and the Public Prosecutor's Offices throughout the country to designate the necessary contact points to achieve the operation of Unit 24/7.
