New Geographical Indication for Wines
The new GI is located in Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, and is made up of terroirs with distinctive qualities to produce quality wines.
On July 16, 2025, the National Viticulture Institute published Resolution 27/2025 in the Official Gazette, adding another Geographical Indication (GI) to the list of recognized GIs in Argentina.
On this occasion, GRUPO AVINEA SA requested that “ALTO AGRELO”—a region in the Department of Lujan de Cuyo in the Province of Mendoza—be recognized, protected, and registered as a GI of Argentina. The application did not receive opposition from third parties and all legal requirements for its recognition were met.
The new GI is made up of terroirs with distinctive qualities to produce quality wines, in accordance with Law 25163, whose regulatory framework regulates the designation and presentation of wines and spirits of wine origin in Argentina.
