New Appellation of Origin for Cherries

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries—under the Ministry of Economy—issued Resolution 49/2025, published in the Official Gazette on April 7, 2025, recognizing cherries from the locality of Los Antiguos, in the Province of Santa Cruz, as an Appellation of Origin (AO). The request for recognizing, registering, and protecting the AO was filed by the non-profit organization Asociacion Civil Consejo de la Denominacion de Origen Cereza del Valle de Los Antiguos - Patagonia.

The Resolution:

  • Grants the certification to use the AO.
  • Approves the logotype used to commercialize the products the AO covers.
  • Establishes the obligation to use the term “DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN (DO) CEREZA DEL VALLE DE LOS ANTIGUOS - PATAGONIA” on all the products the AO covers, following Resolution 546/2011 of the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.
  • Establishes the obligation to use the logotypes in the Resolution to benefit from the refunds provided for AO products, following Decree 1341/2016 of the Ministry of Agroindustry.

The new AO covers cherries known for their distinctive sweetness, firmness, intense flavor, skin color, and perceived acidity. These unique qualities result from a combination of natural, geographical, and human factors, tied to a production and harvest tradition maintained for over 50 years.

The new AO logotype is:
