Argentine Central Bank Enables Debit Card Payments in USD
The Communication promotes the modernization of the financial system by enabling payments in USD with debit cards.

On January 16, 2025, the Argentine Central Bank issued Communication “A” 8180, enabling merchants to accept debit card payments in USD, thus expanding transaction options for both consumers and businesses.
Starting February 28, 2025, merchants opting for this new functionality will be able to offer their customers the option to pay in USD using their existing debit cards. This measure does not require issuing new cards, as current ones will incorporate this capability. During the transaction, customers will be able to select their preferred currency at enabled POS terminals.
These initiatives from the Argentine Central Bank aim to encourage the use of USD in the real economy and provide greater flexibility in financial transactions, aligning with the evolving needs of the market.
