Santiago del Rio joined Marval O'Farrell Mairal in 2006 and is a partner of the Competition and Antitrust department.

He regularly advises companies from a wide range of markets on antitrust matters in Argentina. He has extensive experience in handling complex merger control notifications, as well as providing counsel for investigations on antitrust practices, both in their administrative and judicial phases.

He graduated from Universidad del Salvador with a law degree in 2005 and later completed a graduate course in Economics for Competition Law (merit) at King’s College, London.

Between 2010 and 2011, he worked at Uría Menéndez in their offices in Madrid and Brussels. He has participated in Phase I and Phase II mergers, investigations of anticompetitive conduct in accordance with Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union and in appeals before the Court of Justice of the European Union.

He has published several works in his area of expertise, including the Argentine chapters for Public Competition Enforcement Review, The Merger Control Review and Oxford Global Antitrust Compliance Handbook, as well as several pieces for international and local publications.

Throughout his career, Santiago has been listed in international rankings such as Up and Coming (Chamber & Partners 2019), Next Generation Lawyer (Legal 500 2020) and Future Thought Leader (Who’s Who Competition 2020). Santiago is the current head of the Antitrust Section of the Argentine-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Antitrust Section of the City of Buenos Aires Bar Association.
