Intellectual Property
As President of the Programs Committee of the Interamerican Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), Santiago R. O'Conor attended and organized the Academic Agenda of the Intellectual Property Seminar which took place in Quito, Ecuador, from March 15-17, 2009. This Seminar was attended by prestigious panelists which acted as speakers dealing with the following issues: "Advertising and Intellectual Property"; "Mergers and Acquisitions/Intellectual Property: Successes and Failures"; "Expressions of Folklore and Traditional Knowledge"; "Geographical Indications vs. Collective Marks"; "Doctrine on Equivalents in connection with Patents"; "Trademark Infringement in Virtual Reality"; "Intellectual Property in Sports as development tool"; "Copyright and Freedom of Speech".
Dr. O'Conor was also in charge -together with representatives of the IBA ( International Bar Association)- of the first joint workshop between ASIPI/IBA in which the following items were dealt: "Protection of INN (International Non-Proprietary Names)"; "Management of IP Firms"; "News related to the fight against IP Piracy"; "What dictionary to use? The use of concepts of common law in IP"; "Use, exploitation and abuse of IP on the internet and mobile devices"
