Border measures – Counterfeit goods– Training programs

Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal and the International Anti-counterfeiting Coalition (IACC) organized the “International Training Seminar for Customs and Law Enforcement in Argentina” on September 2, 2009 at the Sheraton Libertador Hotel in Buenos Aires. There were more than 120 attendees, including officers from Customs, Federal Police, Naval Forces, Gendarmerie and officers from the Judiciary. Miguel B O’Farrell, Gustavo P Giay, Verónica M Canese and Marcelo García Sellart gave presentations on how to detect counterfeit goods.  The following trademark owners participated in the Training Seminar: BMW, CALVIN KLEIN, CHANEL, ELI LILLY, CISCO, DOLBY, FERRARI, HARLEY-DAVIDSON, ENERGIZER, FORD, NOBLEZA PICCARDO, HASBRO, HONDA, LONGCHAMP, NOKIA, TIMBERLAND, MICROSOFT, NEW ERA, PHILIP MORRIS INTERNATIONAL, OAKLEY, SANDISK, PFIZER, PROCTER & GAMBLE and RIM.


Likewise, Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal jointly with the Customs Authority organized the “Training Program on Detection of Counterfeit Goods”. Marcelo García Sellart and Diego Fernández gave presentations on the Industrial and Intellectual Property legislation, border measures and identification of counterfeit goods.  The program took place on September 8-9, 2009 at Customs’ regional offices in the province of Salta with the participation of more than 60 attendees, including officers and agents from Customs. The province of Salta is located in the north of Argentina, near the border with Bolivia and Chile and constitutes an important customs delegation in the control of counterfeit goods, particularly those coming from Eastern countries and entering the continent through the ports and tax-free areas of the Pacific Sea coast.  The following trademark owners participated in the Training Program: CHANEL, ELI LILLY, FERRARI, HARLEY-DAVIDSON, HASBRO, HONDA, LONGCHAMP, MICROSOFT, NEW ERA, OAKLEY and SANDISK.

Miguel B O'Farrell gave a presentation on "Border Measures in Argentina" at the "International Seminar on Intellectual Property, Society and Development" organized by FLACSO, which took place in Buenos Aires on September 17-18, 2009, and on "The situation of foreign trademark owners without local distributors" at the "Foro Aduanero de Lucha contra el Fraude Marcario", which took place at Customs premises in the city of Buenos Aires on August 31, 2009.
