Border measures - Counterfeit goods - International Seminar and Webinar
On April 29, 2011 Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal, together with the International Anti- Counterfeiting Coalition (IACC), organized the "International Seminar on Detection of Counterfeit Goods" at the NH City Hotel in the City of Buenos Aires. There were approximately 130 attendees, namely officers from Customs, the Federal Police, the Naval Forces, INTERPOL and officers from the Judiciary. Gustavo P Giay, Diego Fernández and Marcelo García Sellart made presentations on how to detect counterfeit goods. The following trademark owners participated in the Seminar: adidas, HONDA, CHANEL, PROCTER & GAMBLE, DOLBY, COLGATE, TIMBERLAND, HASBRO, STOLICHNAYA, OAKLEY and HARLEY-DAVIDSON.
In addition, at lunchtime, Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal and the IACC held a Webinar in a conference room of the same hotel. The topic was "How Brand Owners enforce their trademarks in Latin America". In-house practitioners of three top famous brands discussed the best ways to combat counterfeiting at the borders and on the Internet in the Latin American region.
The speakers were Vanessa Vargas, Brand Protection and Enforcement Counsel Latin America & Caribbean for CHANEL; María Laura Perna, Brand Protection Manager for adidas with responsibilities in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay; and Yuichiro Kawamura and Hiroyuki Tomishige, General Manager Intellectual Property Division and Assistant to Board and IP Attorney of Honda, respectively.
The Webinar was viewed by 77 people, mostly in-house counsels based abroad. Gustavo P. Giay, partner with Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal, coordinated and moderated the Webinar.
