We advised Glencore International AG and Newmont Corporation on its joint venture integration for the development of Project MARA
Marval O’Farrell Mairal advised Glencore International AG and Newmont Corporation on its joint venture integration for the development of Project MARA, which combines the Agua Rica world-class copper-gold deposit and the Bajo de la Alumbrera mine infrastructure and plant.
The deal is unprecedented in Argentina because it allows the creation and operation of a world-class mine by three major companies, including the world’s largest gold producer Newmont Corporation, top world diversified commodities trader Glencore International AG, and major gold producer Yamana Gold, integrating valuable reserves, that have long been awaiting development, with the infrastructure of the largest mine in operation in the country for the last 25 years.
Our expert partner in Energy & Natural Resources and Mining Luis E. Lucero led this operation. In addition, our partner in Competition/ Antitrust Santiago Del Río along with associates Andrés Villarreal, Agustina Dellacasa, Agustina Redondo, Ignacio Alonso, Juan Naveira, Mariana Batallé, Martin Guala and Victoria Suarez Pino assisted in this deal.
