The Australian company ORICA is the first explosives factory to establish itself in the Province of San Juan. The company bought 500 hectares in Sarmiento department, located near the limit with the Province of Mendoza, and estimates to invest 2 million dollars in the project, according to the information announced by Gustavo Ortiz, from the company's offices in Desamparados.
The factory will produce ammonium nitrate, a chemical used to make high mountain explosions. The chemical explodes when mixed with diesel oil and a detonator. The company was attracted by the on-going mining projects taking place in the Province.
