Rechazan una demanda mapuche por la mina, published in Río Negro On Line (Province of Río Negro) on 02/24/2010
February 10, 2010
National Prosecutor, Raúl Gaitán, acting on behalf of the Province of Río Negro, rejected the arguments of a claim filed by the mapuche community Mellao Morales against the Government-owned company Cormine to stop the exploitation of the copper deposit Campana Mahuida.
The mapuche community filed a claim to pursue the annulment of the concession of Campana Mahuida's mine awarded to the Chinese company Emprendimientos Mineros and the declaration of unconstitutionality of an article of the Provincial Mining Code.
The National Prosecutor's Office requested the Civil, Commercial and Mining Court No. 1 of Zapala to reject the claim. The request was based on the fact that the agreement was between a private company and Cormine, acting as a subject of private law.
