Draft Bill to Amend Sections 57 and 61 of the Copyright Law

Under the bill it will be mandatory to deposit two copies of all printed works in the National Commission for the Protection of Public Libraries, in addition to the copies that must be currently deposited with the National Library and the Library of Congress.

To this end it amends section 57 of Law No. 11,723, that mandates to deposit three copies of any published work, and replaces it with five copies.

This bill also increases from 10 to 20 times the market value of the sample as a penalty in case the publisher fails to make the deposit, and also adds the corresponding deposit of the copies.

Finally, the bill repeals Decree No. 3079/57 that establishes the obligation to deposit one copy of all published works in the National General Archive.
