With the presence of the governor of the Province of La Rioja, Luis Beder Herrera, the Secretary of Mining, Oscar Lehz, the president of EMSE, Hector Duran Sabas, the Director of Mining, Hector Eduardo Romero, and executives from Caudillo Resources, a significant mining agreement was signed. This is the second agreement signed by the province, and the most significant for the country, with the aim of exploring, forming and exploiting uranium in Los Colorados mine, in the department of Independencia. The deposit has 7,120 km2 and to the north it borders on the departments of Capital, Chilecito and Coronel Felipe Varela, to the east it borders on the department of Ángel Vicente Peñaloza, to the west it borders on the Province of San Juan, and at Routh it borders on the department of Facundo Quiroga. Its administrative center is the locality of Patquia. “Los Colorados” is a geological formation of the Triasic period, mostly formed by red sandstone, and represents a sudden change of the weather to a more desert state. This geography will be the seat of this undertaking that will be started on the first days of January of next year [2011].
