On March 14, the construction of the first lithium factory in Argentina began in Salar de Olaroz, in the Province of Jujuy. Production should be starting-off by the second semester of 2014. The new factory will allow the conversion of brine into lithium carbonate. This raw material will be used to produce lithium hydroxide or lithium chloride of a high purity which serves as supply for batteries. The president and CEO of Orocobre, James Calaway, stressed that “it is possible to invest in Argentina as the country aspires to accomplish its industrialization.”
