“Toyota Group Will Extract Lithium from Olaroz Salt Pan in North Argentina,” published in Estrategia Online (Province of Jujuy) on 09/26/2012

The Japanese firm has invested close to USD50 million to associate with the Australian “Orocobre” and participate in the extraction of the mineral. Tsusho Corporation, belonging to the Japanese group Toyota, will participate in a project destined to the extraction of lithium in the salt pan of “Olaroz” in the Argentine province of Jujuy. The exploitation will begin to operate in February 2014 and it is expected to produce more than 16,000 annual tons of this basic metal for the fabrication of hybrid car batteries. In the project are also taking part the provincial corporation of investment “Jujuy Energía y Minería Sociedad del Estado” (JEMSE) and the company “Sales de Jujuy.”
