The mining business has grown exponentially in Argentina in the past two decades. According to research by the Instituto para el Desarrollo Social Argentino (IDESA) since Law No. 24,196 became effective in 1993, exports of mining products grew an exorbitant 753% and in 2010 reached US$ 2,089 million. This push has placed gold and copper, the leading mineral exports in Argentina, in the fifth spot in the foreign sales ranking, even above the meat industry’s foreign sales.
