“The world mining industry is the main engine of development.” said Mark Cutifani, AngloGold Ashanti’s CEO (majority stockholder of Cerro Vanguardia mine in the Province of Santa Cruz) during the recent Mining for Change conference that took place in Johannesburg (South Africa). He highlighted that world mining industry creates 45% of world Gross Domestic Product (GDP), directly or indirectly to other industries. To illustrate this statement, he indicated that income created by the mining industry contributes to 11.5% of global GDP, services to mining with 21 to 23% and fertilisers for agriculture, fuel for transport and the construction industry combined bring the contribution to more than 45%.
