So far this year, investments were agreed for 2,200 million pesos from Australian, Brazilian, Japanese, Peruvian, Canadian and Chinese companies. The investments will "create more jobs and the development of remote locations throughout Argentina", declared the Secretary of Mines, adding that "mining has become the most dynamic productive sector of Argentina, gaining new investments".
Australian operators in charge of Cerro Negro Project, located in the Province of Santa Cruz, in January announced "their commitment to begin the project's construction, which will require an investment of over 800 million pesos", indicating that the company Loma Negra, owned by Brazilian company Camargo Correa, will invest nearly 480 million pesos in 2010, as well.
The company Minera Santa Cruz, operating San José Huevos Verdes' Project, announced an investment of 200 million pesos for the year 2010. The Canadian and Peruvian operators are planning to increase their productive capacity by incorporating new equipments and technologies, mainly in lithium mines in the Provinces of Salta and Jujuy, according to the announcement made by the Mining Secretariat.
