The Canadian mining company Lithium Americas has announced that $3000 million will be invested in the Province of Jujuy in order to extract lithium carbonate and potassium chloride. The first stage of production will begin in 2015, and 20,000 tons per year of lithium carbonate are expected to be produced and 40,000 tons of potassium chloride. The second stage will begin in 2018. Production will be mainly destined for export.
