The Argentine Supreme Court of Justice confirmed an injunction sought by the Professional Council of Economic Sciences of Tierra del Fuego suspending the obligation to report transactions suspicious of money-laundering and terrorism funding to the Financial Information Unit. Three New Partners
On August 1, 2014, Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal promoted three senior associates to partner: Elías F. Bestani, Pablo J. Gayol and Ignacio M. Sánchez Echagüe. These promotions strengthen three of the firm’s core practice areas: dispute resolution, international trade and intellectual property. The new partners already have a wealth of experience and are highly specialized in their respective areas of expertise:
Elías F. Bestani is an expert in complex litigation, with 14 years’ experience. He handles a wide range of cases, with a particular focus on insurance and reinsurance and maritime law, including insurance claims, coverage disputes and shipping and admiralty cases. Elías is a member of the Argentine Maritime Law Association and of the Shipping Institute of the National Academy of Law. He has been invited by the Center for American and International Law to speak at its Symposiums on Globalization for In-house and Outside Counsel and has lectured in Marine Insurance on the Insurance Law Master’s course at the Universidad Católica Argentina. Elías spent a year working at global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and holds an LL.M. from Columbia University.
Pablo J. Gayol specializes in international trade, with particularly strong expertise in antidumping investigations and WTO dispute settlement procedures, as well as import and export regulations, certificates of origin and non-automatic licenses. He has participated in numerous investigations. Pablo is a postgraduate professor of International Trade at Universidad San Andrés and has lectured in antidumping matters at CEMA University and at several chambers of commerce. He holds a Master’s in Law from Chicago University, a Master’s in Finance from CEMA University and is a CFA charterholder.
Ignacio M. Sánchez Echagüe specializes in industrial property and more particularly in patent law. He handles contentious and non-contentious matters and is highly active representing key clients such as Novartis, Monsanto and Syngenta in groundbreaking patent cases. Ignacio is a postgraduate Professor of Patent Law and PCT at the Universidad Austral. He is a member of both the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Industrielle (AIPPI) and has participated in seminars on industrial property and written articles in both national and international publications. He holds a Master in Laws, specializing in intellectual property, from George Washington University Law School.

Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal was elected the Argentine law firm of the year for the eleventh consecutive time, according to the ranking of Apertura magazine resulting from a survey conducted among lawyers and published in its August 2014 edition.

Alberto C. Cappagli, AADM’s Chair, acted as moderator.

Experiences in the world” at the II Seminar of Fashion Law in Argentina and I Conference of Latin American Fashion Law and Business, organized by IAE and the Students Association of the School of Law of the Universidad Austral, held in Buenos Aires on August 21-22, 2014.
