Argentine Sign Language Recognized as Natural and Native Language

Law No. 27710, published on May 3, 2023, recognized the Argentine Sign Language (ASL) and defined it as a natural and native language part of an immaterial historical legacy, as well as part of the linguistic identity of all deaf people and of those who choose this language to communicate. Likewise, the Law appoints organizations of deaf people incorporated and registered in Argentina as consultation bodies on ASL.

Further, the Law empowers the Executive Branch to promote and encourage the use of ASL within its competence, so that deaf people have full access to society and equal opportunities, to strengthen and promote their independence and personal autonomy.
