New National Registry of Communication Facilitators for Access to Justice of Persons with Disabilities
Professionals proving competence to act in courts as communication mediators for persons with disabilities can now register.

Resolution No. 496 of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights created the "National Registry of Communication Facilitators for Access to Justice of Persons with Disabilities" (RENAFAJU), for communication specialists who prove oral or written language skills (e.g. sign language and Braille readers and interpreters). The Registry will be in charge of monitoring the performance of the professionals and the fulfillment of the objectives of the "National Program of Assistance for Persons with Disabilities in their Relations with the Administration of Justice", created through Decree No. 1375 on September 16, 2011.
To register, applicants must comply with the requirements in article 4 of the Resolution, including passing a suitability exam, proving they have completed the training the Program requires, and other requirements that may be established later. Thus, judges and court employees may request through the Program an acting professional from the Registry. To do so, they must identify the court case involving the person with a disability and describe the difficulty this person has, and the kind of assistance required (art. 5 of the Resolution).
Finally, the Resolution establishes that this Register be operational within one year.
