Domain name renewals and “WHOIS data” update
1. Domain name renewals for ccTLD “ar”
NIC-Argentina has announced that as from June 1, 2005, Rule No 5 of the Rules of Domain Names Registration (Resolution No 2226/2000 of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade), that establishes the renewal system for domain names registered under the extension “ar”, will come into force as detailed as follows: “Domain name registration will be valid for one year as from the registration date. Renewal must be applied for during the last month of registration validity. In the event that the Registering Entity does not apply for the renewal of the domain name before such period, the domain name will be automatically cancelled.”
2. One month renewal term
The above rule has not been in force; therefore, domain names have had no expiration date until now. NIC-Argentina will require renewal of domain names as per following details:
(i)the term to renew a domain name is of one month counting as from the date of notification;
(ii)as from May 1, 2005, NIC-Argentina will notify for each domain name when the one month renewal term starts running. For that purpose, NIC-Argentina will send an e-mail to the addresses associated to the Registering Entity, to the Responsible Person and to the Technical Contact;
(iii)notifications will start on May 1, 2005 for those domain names whose registration date is June 1 of any year prior to 2005, then on May 2, for those domain names whose registration date is June 2, and so on;
(iv)if the one month renewal term expires without renewal, the domain name will be automatically cancelled according to Rule No 5.
3. Renewal procedure - Updating the e-mail address of the Registering Entity
The Registering Entity must complete the web-form “renovar dominio”. Then NIC-Argentina will request e-mail confirmation of the renewal from the Registering Entity to conclude the renewal procedure.
Domain names can only be renewed by issuing instructions from the e-mail address of record of the Registering Entity, so checking and eventually updating this e-mail address in advance is recommended, in order to be able to renew the domain names of interest to you before the deadlines.
