Draft Bill for Who’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control
A bill was submitted by members of Congress Francisco Peralta, Graciela Villata, Omar Duclos, Pablo Javkin and María Linares to approve the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control adopted in Geneva by the 56th World Health Assembly in 2003 (file No. 0766-D-2014). Since it came into force, 168 countries have signed the Convention and 162 have ratified its adoption. In Argentina, the Convention has been submitted to Congress in many opportunities, without success.
The Convention includes several provisions aimed at tobacco control. Some of them concern the packaging and branding, such as the regulation of tobacco products’ content and their disclosure, the adoption of measures regarding legends and sanitary warnings on packages, labeling of products and means of communication for public education and awareness.
