Extension of the New Regime for the Argentine Merchant Navy

In “New regime for the Argentine merchant navy - Decree No 1010/2004” published in Marval News # 31 of August 31, 2004, we informed our readers that, by means of Decree No 1010/2004:
(a) Decree No 1772/1991 and the decrees that had modified it – which authorized Argentine vessels to be provisionally removed from the Argentine Registry while allowed to continue operating the ports reserved for the Argentine flag– were abrogated, and
(b) “Flagged-out” vessels under Decree No 1772/1991 were to return to the Argentine Registry within two years, and
(c) a promotional regime was established for a period of two years by which Argentine shipowners could bareboat charter foreign flagged vessels that would be treated as sailing under the Argentine flag for the purposes of cabotage and international sailing, communication and trading.
The promotional regime mentioned in paragraph (c) has been extended by Decree No 1022/2006 published in the Official Gazette on August 15, 2006.
