New Deadline for Re-registration of Public Databases

Regulation No. 132/2018 of the Agency of Access to Public Information, which was published on October 22, 2018, established a new procedure for the registration and renewal of public and private databases.

This regulation, which replaced the prior framework for registration and renewal of databases, aimed to make these procedures faster and simpler, (further information here).

Regulation No. 132/2018 stated that data controllers of private databases that were already registered must re-register them before October 31, 2019. It also provided that public databases must be re-registered before February 28, 2019.

Recently, the Agency of Access to Public Information issued Regulation No. 37/2019, postponing the deadline for the re-registration of public archives, registries and databases containing personal information until June 28, 2019.

The Agency stated that this new deadline aimed to provide public entities with additional time to comply with the new registration procedure, due to the reorganization of the national public sector conducted through Decrees Nos. 801/18 and 1117/18.
