New Rule for Domain Names in Argentina

For the purpose of domain name registration, NIC-Argentina now requires that persons or entities who apply for top-level domain names under the ccTLD “.ar” establish a legal address within the territory of Argentina. This is also required for domain name assignments and for changes of names or addresses regarding existing domain names. If a local address is not provided, Nic-Argentina will neither process new domain name applications nor assignments, changes of name or of address, requiring by e-mail that the applicant first complies with this new rule.

We would be pleased to make available to our clients our office address for service in Argentina. For that purpose a document should be filed with Nic-Argentina, certified by a Notary Public. To proceed we would need a Power of Attorney also certified by a Notary Public and legalized with the Apostille of The Hague Convention or consular legalization. We may already hold sufficient Power of Attorney if we have acted on behalf of the domain name holder in other Industrial Property matters.

In case of domain names filed by unauthorized third parties with a foreign address, we would mention that upon written petition by the legitimate owner of the domain name, NIC-Argentina will give the third party a period of 10 days to comply with the new requirement, or cancel the domain name.
