New Appellations of Origin in Argentina
New Appellations of Origin (AOs) have been officially recognized in Argentina for cherries and paprika.

Resolutions 49/2025 — dated April 7, 2025 — and 52/2025 — dated April 14, 2025 — of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, under the Ministry of Economy, granted official recognition to the following Appellations of Origin:
• CEREZA DEL VALLE DE LOS ANTIGUOS – PATAGONIA
• PIMENTÓN DEL VALLE CALCHAQUÍ DE SALTA
The applications for recognition, registration and protection of these AOs were submitted by the Asociación Civil Consejo de la Denominación de Origen Cereza del Valle de los Antiguos – Patagonia, and the Asociación Civil Abierta Consejo de la Denominación de Origen del Pimentón del Valle Calchaquí de Salta, respectively.
The Resolutions:
1. Grant the certificate of usage rights for the recognized AOs.
2. Approve the official logotypes under which products protected by these AOs will be marketed.
3. Establish the obligation to use the term “DENOMINACIÓN DE ORIGEN REGISTRADA” (“REGISTERED APPELLATION OF ORIGIN”), as approved by Resolution 546/2011 issued by the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
4. Establish the obligation to use the logotypes in the Resolutions to qualify for the export rebates available for AO-protected products, following Decree 1341/2016 of the former Ministry of Agroindustry.
The official logotypes are:
The CEREZA DEL VALLE DE LOS ANTIGUOS – PATAGONIA AO covers the southern coast of Lake Buenos Aires, including the Valle de Los Antiguos and nearby surrounding areas in the province of Santa Cruz. These cherries are known for their sweetness, firmness, intense flavor, skin color and balanced acidity. Their distinctive qualities are the result of specific natural, geographic and human factors, combined with a productive tradition of over 50 years.
The PIMENTÓN DEL VALLE CALCHAQUÍ DE SALTA AO covers parts of the municipalities of La Poma, Payogasta, Cachi, Seclantas, Molinos, Angastaco, San Carlos, Animana and Cafayate, located in the Calchaqui Valley, in the province of Salta. This paprika is characterized by its mild, pure pepper aroma and its deep red color with orange hues that remain vibrant even when diluted. These qualities are the result of natural, geographic and cultural factors, as well as a longstanding artisanal tradition of manual harvesting and sun-drying.
