On May 11, Decree 459/2020 (the "Decree") was published in the Official Gazette, extending the term of the "Social, Preventive and Mandatory Isolation" up to and including May 24, 2020.

New Extension of the Social, Preventive and Mandatory Isolation

The Decree maintains prohibitions throughout the country in relation to: (i) the teaching of on-site classes of any kind; (ii) public and private events; (iii) the opening of shopping centers, cinemas, theatres, cultural centers, libraries, museums, restaurants, bars, gyms, clubs and any public or private space involving the attendance of persons; (iv) public passenger transportation, except that used to transport exempted personnel; (v) tourist activities; the opening of parks, squares or similar.

 

The Decree establishes measures to ease the compulsory confinement for municipalities according to whether they have up to, or more than, 500,000 inhabitants. As regards the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, the Governor of the Province of Buenos Aires and the Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires are authorized to require the Argentine Executive to allow industrial, service or commercial activities to be carried out; for which purpose they must comply with the regulations and protocols issued by the Argentine Ministry of Health.

 

The exemption to attend the workplace in cases of risk and for people whose presence at home is indispensable for the care of children remains in force.

 

In addition, it orders that public sector employees who are not exempted from the isolation order must carry out their duties from the place of isolation wherever possible.

 

Finally, the Decree extends the prohibition of entry into the national territory of foreign persons not resident in the country until May 24, 2020.
