Domain Names in Argentina

1. “.TUR.AR”
In this case, the main purpose of the measure is to provide more security to those who hire tourism-related services over the internet. Domain names “.tur.ar” will be exclusively available to travel or tourism agencies approved by the Argentine Secretary of Tourism.
Although the registration procedure of the extension “.tur.ar” still needs to be regulated, NIC Argentina will be informed by the Argentine Secretary of Tourism of the authorized agencies that can obtain a “.tur.ar” registration.
2. New multilingual characters
Those interested in multilingual characters will be able to include them in their current names, or register new ones containing, for example the letter ñ, accents, dieresis, cedilla (Portuguese), which are not available in the current system. The new characters will be:
“á”, “â”, “ã”, “à”, “é”, “ê”, “í”, “ó”, “ô”, “õ”, “ú”, “ü”, “ñ” and “ç”
Once this new alternative is in place, current domain owners will have a preferential period of 100 days within which they will be able to apply for new domain names, converting their domain names into multilingual domains. For example, the owner of the domain name “cabanas.com.ar” will be able to apply for the version “cabañas.com.ar”. The conversion rules will be as follows:
(i) Characters “á”, “â”, “ã” or “à” may be introduced in replacement of the letter “a”.
(ii) Characters “é” or “ê” may be introduced in replacement of the letter “e”.
(iii) Character “í” may be introduced in replacement of the letter “i”.
(iv) Characters “ó”, “ô” or “õ” may be introduced in replacement of the letter “o”.
(v) Characters “ú” or “ü” may be introduced in replacement of the letter “u”.
(vi) Character “ñ” may be introduced in replacement of the following letter combinations: “n”, “nh”, “ni”, “nn”, “ny”, “gn”.
(vii) Character “ç” may be introduced in replacement of the following letters: “c” or “s”.
Priority: In case of conflict regarding the conversion of a domain name, the owner of the oldest domain name will have priority.
Once the 100-day preference period expires, the system will be available to anyone interested
