Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal had an active role as co-writer, Argentine representative and international coordinator of the “Combating Sextortion: A Comparative Study of Laws to Prosecute Corruption Involving Sexual Exploitation” report.

This report was produced under the initiative of The International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ). The IAWJ is a non-profit and non-governmental organization whose members represent all levels of the judiciary in over 70 countries and share a commitment to equal justice and the rule of law. The objective of this report was to establish a legal framework to prosecute corruption involving sexual exploitation. This act is known as Sextortion.

Thomson Reuters Foundation invited Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal to take part in this project, due to the expertise of its members. Marval was responsible for preparing the report for Argentina, and also for the international coordination with law firms from all over the world in order to obtain a homogenous report.

The report illustrates how sextortion manifests around the world, examines the laws available for prosecuting it, and describes the often inadequate response of the criminal justice systems in nine jurisdictions. These findings provide a blueprint for strengthening the laws and policies needed to combat sextortion.

This report has a detailed description of the situation in the following jurisdictions: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Kenya, Mexico, Taiwan, Uganda and the United Kingdom.

Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal’s role as international coordinator was to organize, supervise, revise and put together the reports prepared by the different law firms that took part in this project.

After seven months of hard work, the final report was launched in New York City on April 10, 2015 at the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s office. Patricia López Aufranc represented Marval at this event.

The Marval, O'Farrell & Mairal team was led by partner Gonzalo J. Fontana, who worked with an unrivalled group of associates: Jazmine Daruich, Eliana Romina Hougassian, Julieta Monteroni, Pamela Nohra, Andrés O’Farrell, Julia Anabel Sainz and María Alejandra Stefanich.
