In Memoriam: 100 Years Since the Birth of Ernesto Aracama Zorraquin

Today, we remember his life, his achievements and successes, and his relentless dedication to fostering ideas and serving our firm. Clad in exquisite suits, thick-rimmed glasses and a cane, Ernesto Aracama Zorraquín came to Marval every day to pursue his passion in law and intellectual property.

Emeritus professor at the Law School of the Argentine Catholic University and the University of Buenos Aires, he was a founding member of the Inter-American Association of Industrial Property (ASIPI) and an active participant in the main intellectual property law associations, including the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Lawyers (FICPI) and the International Trademark Association (INTA).

The mere mention of his name in any circle of IP law at an international level evokes the memory of a great lawyer, lecturer and author of numerous publications on Intellectual Property, including his well-remembered work “Distinctive Media and Comparative Advertising in Argentine Law,” a subject that fascinated him. He combined his deep knowledge of the law with his exceptional memory and good sense in his memorable court cases that set trends in local and regional caselaw.

He was a mentor to many of us who had the privilege of knowing him and working along his side —in whom his legacy lives on.
