The National Viticulture Institute Registers New IG for Wines
Balcarce, in the Province of Buenos Aires, was recognized, protected, and registered as a Geographical Indication.

The National Viticulture Institute (INV, by its acronym in Spanish) has issued Resolution No. 11/2022, published in the Official Gazette on July 1, 2022, following which the region known as Balcarce, in the Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was recognized as a Geographical Indication (GI).
The petition for recognition, registration, protection, and right to use the GI was filed by La Gloriosa S.A. The INV granted the request after considering that this particular production area consists of soils with distinctive qualities, suitable for producing quality wines. Additionally, all applicable legal requirements were met.
The legal framework regulating the designation and presentation of wines and spirits of vinic origin in Argentina includes Law No. 25163 and its regulatory decree. The INV is the institution in charge of enforcing this legal framework.
Balcarce is thus added to the list of recognized GIs in Argentina.
