On November 7, 2007 the Official Gazette published Regulation P-266/2007 passed by the National Institute of Industrial Property that approved the Eighth Edition of the International Classification of Industrial Designs under the Locarno Agreement (the “Eighth International Classification”), which will come into force on December 1, 2007.

The approval of the Eighth International Classification means the correct adoption of a proper rule to govern the retrieval of information, allowing precise determination of the scope of protection, providing a better method for identifying industrial products and facilitating the search for the information necessary for a proper analysis of an application under international standards.

Finally, Regulation P-266/2007 abrogated the Argentine national classification system in order that there be just one unified system.
