Correo Argentino Announces Registered Letter With Digital Identity Validation Service

The National Office of Postal Service Control of the Argentine Communications Agency (ENACOM) registered through Disposition 1197/23 the service called "Registered Letter with Digital Identity Validation Through Electronic Imposition Service (SIE)" on November 7, 2023. The Argentine official mail service, Correo Argentino, announced the novelty.

According to Correo Argentino's presentation, customers can now send registered letters without physically going to the post office. Correo Argentino described it as a tool for final customers. Customers will register by validating their identities at the the National Registry of Natural Persons (RENAPER).

Correo Argentino also defined the SIE as a secure web-access platform that allows registered users to send electronically their registered letters, with the mail service subsequently printing them at the issuance points nearest to the destinations, to later distribute them as usual.

Correo Argentino will generate a second copy of the letter for senders to view. Senders can print or download it at home. The third copy will be archived in the Correo Argentino's computer system for five years. Correo Argentino also emphasized that the system meets the technical and security conditions necessary to protect the content of the letters and their inviolability.

The system will include mail tracking, available via the internet or by phone. Delivery of the letters will be attempted twice, with a standard delivery time of  24 to  48 hours. Further, the communication transmission will be carried out using the HTTPS protocol, and the service will also include a receipt notification.

According to the announcement, the relevant departments of the National Directorate of Postal Service Control have audited the service and confirmed it works.
