Argentine PTO: Statistics for 2015

The aggregate numbers (totals for patent, design patent, utility model, trademark and trademark opposition filings) show a robust increase of 15.3%, from 97,592 filings in 2014 to 112,512 in 2015.  These filings also surpass those of 2012 (106,400) and 2013 (100,977), and reverse the declining trend in the three years prior to 2015.

A closer look to the various items shows an increase in the overall number of trademark filings (17.1%), which is particularly remarkable in the case of renewals (27.3%).  The number of trademark oppositions increased firmly (15.5%).

The number of design patent filings also increased (9.6%), both with regard to new applications (11.7%) and to renewals (6.4%).  The same happened in connection with utility models, albeit more modestly (4.9%).

On the other hand, patent applications decreased 12.5%, consistent with the decline in 2013 (-0.7%) and 2014 (-2.1%).
