The Legislature of Mendoza has to either confirm or reject the Provincial Government's decree which authorizes the beginning of the exploration in Malargüe, seeking for uranium. The Economic Commission of the House of Representatives received representatives of the Energía Mineral company, who were in charge of the investigation, to start analyzing the information presented by the subsidiary company of Canadian mining company Calypso Uranium. The President of the Commission, Roberto Pradines, expressed that "the stage involves the exploration of a 25,000 hectares surface in Malargüe. If the Legislature confirms the decree, the company has to return within two years to make an environmental impact study".
It seems to be no obstacle for the exploration due to the positive declaration of environmental impact issued by the National University of San Luis. Likewise, the project, based on the realization of 30 pits, each one measuring 200 meters deep and with 10 cm diameters, does not require the use of mercury, acids nor has a significant water use.
