New Law on Children’s Safe Use of Screens
The Province of Buenos Aires regulated students’ use of screens while they are at school.
Law 15534 was published in the Official Gazette on October 14, 2025. In it, the Province of Buenos Aires regulates elementary school students’ use of screens while they are in public and private educational establishments. Specifically, the law establishes that, during the school day, students may only use screens for educational purposes and with the teacher’s explicit authorization.
The Law defines “screens” as “any electronic device that allows the display of information and interaction through the reception, processing, storage, transport, and/or transformation of data, sounds, and images.” Ultimately, the aim of the law is to promote the safe and responsible use of screens and to inform and raise awareness among the population about the risks and harmful effects that exposing children to them may bring about.
The Law also provides that the enforcement authority must:
- Conduct dissemination and awareness campaigns on its official websites and digital platforms, and in written and audiovisual media.
- Create posters and brochures with information on the risks and harmful effects of exposing children up to 12 years of age to screens, the negative consequences this has on physical and mental health, cognitive development, and behavior.
- Ensure that said posters and brochures are displayed in health centers, emergency rooms, and clinics specializing in pediatrics, maternity, vaccination centers, early childhood and primary education institutions, electronics stores, civil associations, neighborhood clubs, cultural centers, among others.
Finally, the Law invites different municipalities to carry out awareness and dissemination campaigns on the safe and responsible use of screens.
