Draft Bill to Amend Section 10 of the Argentine Trademark Law to Set Up Regional Offices
On July 10, 2013 Congresswoman Anabel Fernández Sagasti submitted a draft bill to amend Section 10 of Trademark Law No. 22,362 in order to create regional offices of the National Institute of Industrial Property (or INPI, after its acronym in Spanish).

Currently Section 10 of Law No. 22,362 states that anyone wishing to obtain the registration of a trademark must submit an application for each class, including name, real address and constitute a special address in the city of Buenos Aires, along with the description of the mark and the indication of the products or services to be covered thereby.
The bill first changes the name “Capital Federal” (Federal District) in Section 10 for “Buenos Aires Autonomous City”, in accordance with the constitutional amendment that granted autonomous character to the City of Buenos Aires.
Secondly the bill, in amended Section 10, mandates the INPI to set up regional offices in the provinces. Thus the bill seeks to decentralize the administrative activities carried out by the Argentine PTO and thus achieve a truly federal entity.
